This amazing graphic gives a very visual snapshot of the inequality of global GDP per capita among nations. Luxembourg has the richest population in terms of GDP per capita, enhanced by the fact that many who work in Luxembourg's banking and asset management sectors live in neighbours France, Germany, and Belgium. Burundi has the poorest population in GDP per capita.
What bears watching is how things change post-pandemic. While most countries are showing declining GDP per capita against 2019 measures (here shown in parentheses after the country name), the world needs to return to stronger and more equitable growth in 2021 and beyond to prevent a damaging spiral as inequality worsens.
There is a lot of talk about inclusive and sustainable global growth. This image is a call to action.
